Benefits of the Oil Cleansing Method!!!

The mention of using oils for skincare could seem unimaginable to most, especially for those with oily and acne prone skin. Regardless of your skin type, oils work brilliantly as a skin care aid. For centuries, oils have formed an integral part of Indian skincare, whether in the weekly coconut oil hair massages or the traditional ayurvedic body massages. Using oil to cleanse your face and take off makeup may seem absurd, but here is why it is worth a shot.

  1. Regulates sebum

Oil attracts oil. It may be tempting to go for the squeaky clean feel by using harsh soap based cleansers, but supplementing your face wash with an oil cleanser would cleanse deeper and protect your skin. Harsh cleansers strip your skin of the necessary sebum and moisture, which in turn signal the skin to produce more sebum resulting in oily skin and acne. Opt for an oil cleansing to balance out your skin.

  1. Removes stubborn makeup

Oil loosens makeup and dislodges it from the skin, even the waterproof and smudge proof kind. It is an excellent and inexpensive substitute for eye makeup removers.

  1. Non pore clogging

Natural oils (jojoba, coconut, olive, almond, grapeseed, sesame etc.) will not clog pores. They are an excellent alternative to cleansing creams and milks, which may contain mineral oil.

  1. No more dry skin

It will never leave your face feeling dry, parched and stretchy. It forms a uniform protective barrier on the skin and moisturises it even after following up with face wash.

  1. Perfect for the dewy look

Cleanse your face with the oil cleansing method, followed by a face wash. This routine before applying makeup, removes any residue and primes and preps the skin by giving it a luminous and dewy look.

  1. Pocket friendly

It costs way lesser than other cleansers and there is an oil for every budget and skin type.

  1. Custom made for your skin

It can be customised to suit your needs and moods. Pick a carrier oil (almond, jojoba, olive, apricot, coconut), add a few drops of your favourite essential oils (lavender, Jasmine, sandalwood, chamomile, rose) and you have your own personalised aroma cleansing oil. Massage it onto your skin and remove the residue with cleansing wipes. Essential oils have so many skin friendly properties and mixing them with carrier oils to use as a cleanser is a brilliant way to reap some of the benefits. Mix more than one essential oil into the carrier oil for a bouquet of fragrances for your own spectacular home pampering experience.

Etude house nutrifull shea butter sleep pack

It is a thick emulsion which magically penetrates the skin to leave a thin glossy film. It is meant to be massaged into the skin like a cream and left on overnight to deliver hydrated and plump looking skin.

It has a pleasant fragrance and the consistency is just right. Though the skin appears visibly hydrated the morning after, dry skin might need something richer. A small amount goes a long way. It’s quite a nice masque, especially for the winter!

Oils have formed an integral part of beauty regimen in many cultures for centuries due to their nourishing and moisturising properties. Derived from seeds, nuts, fruits and flowers, they have found a place in skincare, hair care and general well being owing to their versatile healing, antiseptic, nourishing, protecting properties and mood lifting effects.

A staple in the lives of the Berbers (an indigenous tribe from Morocco), Argan Oil has gained popularity worldwide owing to its extensive benefits to health, skin and hair. The Argan tree is native to Morocco and the oil is harvested and pressed by the local women thus accounting for its rarity and the price. The Argan fruit is dried in the sun, cracked open using stones yielding the argan nut which is roasted, ground, pressed and filtered to make the oil.

Argan oil is rich in unsaturated fats, carotenoids, Vitamin E ( higher content than in olive oil) and anti oxidants. It finds its application in cooking, hair and skin care and is known to have nourishing, moisturising, anti scarring and anti-ageing properties which has made it a staple in the skin and hair regimes of the women of Morocco. Carotenoids, a form of Vitamin A help promote cell renewal thereby evening out skin tone and preventing signs of ageing. In addition to assisting fading marks, regulating oil production, enhancing the tone and texture of the skin, it also conditions and adds a healthy sheen to hair. It is light weight, easily absorbed by the skin and hair and is non comedogenic.

Many skin and hair care brands like L’oreal, Organix, Kerastase, Josie Maran, Skinception, FX Moroccan Moisture, Moroccan Oil etc have launched product lines containing Argan oil. Currently only L’oreal, Dove Elixir Oils, Kerastase Elixir Ultime and FX Moroccan Moisture are easily available in India, all of which are hair care products. Most brands are known to contain Argan oil in a small percentage, often blended with other oils as pure Argan oil is expensive and rare.

Having been very pleased with the hair products containing Argan oil that I have managed to try out which I will be reviewing soon, I’m definitely on the look out for more products containing this miracle ingredient especially for skin care
